I am still taking questions for the Post Once A Day Meme, if you're interested?
Multiple questions are most definitely allowed, as I honestly don't think I even have thirty one separate people following me here. Feel free to assign dates or not!

Okay, so. The FFXII liveblog. IT IS FINALLY HERE AGAIN.
I first started this back in March 2014, and never completed it because I'm bad about doing things like that (previous liveblog attempts were episodes of Lost, and I'm fairly certain that, while I had notes on S2, I never even finished liveblogging S1. However, I no longer have my LJ to check that for sure).
THAT SAID! I would like to get better at finishing things! And I love FFXII to itty bitty pieces.
The previous entry on the liveblog left off just after the Elder Wyrm fight (fuck that fight, seriously). What I'm going to do, though, is back up on myself, because I didn't say much about a rather large chunk of the game. SO. We're going all the way back to Raithwall's Tomb, and I'll start from there.
Previous entries can be found in this tag here: Jae plays FFXII - I will link the old entry to this one, and continue linking the way I had been doing before, so if you see them not in the tag, they can be clicked through, or whatever.

Okay, so we're starting from Raithwall's Tomb, which is a slight slide back, as noted above. The previous entry in this liveblog is here. The fact that there are spoilers goes without saying.
Raithwall's Tomb definitely feels easier than previous playthroughs - I didn't get lost, and I remembered more or less what to do. I think it's because I'm familiar with it, though it may have also helped that one of the German LPs I watched of this was half of this exact dungeon.
THAT SAID, I completely forgot about the Demon Wall! I thought it was in the Stilshrine, for some reason (look, it's four+ years since I last played this). Anyway, I pasted it with Quickenings, and it didn't even get a chance to cast Telega (which is good, because that spell is the bane of my existence, usually).
I would like to note that I hate the noise the zombie/undead enemies make when you hit or kill them (and it's worse now, because I have a fancy sound bar, so I can hear every little nuance of every bit of the sound design, YAY).
Messed up the Belias fight a bit, but did not get a Game Over, so consider that a success. I really am not good at planning fights. I hack and slash, and hope for the best (and also - in this game and this game only - fail to use Black Magic, because *shrug emoji*. I don't know why, but it just never occurs to me).
Hmm, yeah, like Vossler doesn't know what's going on. [side eye intensifies]
So I can't remember, but am I right in thinking that Ashe and Rasler actually loved each other, as opposed to...not doing? There's a cutscene later on that kind of implies that, and I doubt Ashe would be so sad following his death if she didn't love him, but IDK? I don't think the game actually says it outright.
ALSO! And it's taken me 11 years/6 goes to notice this, but when Ashe is expositing about Raithwall, you can see him holding the Sword of Kings! YAY FORESHADOWING).
WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THE DUSK SHARD. After Ghis takes it from our dashing heroes, it is literally never mentioned again as being a thing the Empire has. Because we know what happens to the Dawn Shard, and we know what happened to the Midlight Shard (eventually), soooooo...?
I got my first game over fucking up versus Vossler. I'm not entirely surprised, although the fact that I'm this far into the game and haven't had a TPK yet is...amazing. Like I said, I'm a hack and slasher, and I just charge in with no plans.
Hmm, yeah, Balthier mentions that the Empire still has the Dusk Shard, but then ???? Like, they could have used it to take out Rabanastre (but they didn't).
Now I know why I didn't say much last time - it's because my comments mostly weren't very useful. Like, I am also no good at meta, or analytics, or whatever. I just gut react to everything, I guess?
like: IT'S THE RAINS IN GIZA!!!!!
(I love it when it rains there but, as I've noted on twitter, if not here, I love rainy levels in games - because where I live/grew up is a rainy place, so it's kind of comforting to me).
Again in Jahara, when the chief is expositing about nethecite, you can see Raithwall with the Sword of Kings again. I'm still mad I didn't notice it till now.
Not a lot to say about Eruyt, except that the whole bit with Fran and Jote is horrible (and is going to get worse), and that Vaan is a stupid, childish, child.
The Henne Mines went badly. I don't know if there's a bit of an uptick in the difficulty curve there or what. But the jellies in the cross section where you go to get the map almost wiped everyone out, so I had to go back to the save point just before Golmore Jungle to regroup (and then go and buy items, because I'd run out. At this point, both Basch and Balthier were using items because I wanted to spec Basch as a non-magic user, and Balthier as a time mage. This was not a great plan, so I ended up giving Balthier cure and raise as well as time magic. Basch is still on items only, but I've noticed there's a glitch with hi potions, which I'll talk about again when I get to the part where I noticed it).
Also everything in the Ozmone Plain almost killed everyone, and definitely ran me out of items, in spite of Larsa and his Fountain of Hi Potions™

and also - in this game and this game only - fail to use Black Magic
Black Magic can be pretty OP, if given some time to grow. I forgot how the exact class configurations I’m running on the new version of FFXII, but I do remember that Penelo has access to black magic and she basically decimates most foes.
I can't remember, but am I right in thinking that Ashe and Rasler actually loved each other
The game heavily insinuates that Ashe and Rasler loved one another, at least on Ashe’s side. It might be more complicated than that—but she seemed to genuinely care about him and felt his death on a personal level.
Now I know why I didn't say much last time - it's because my comments mostly weren't very useful. Like, I am also no good at meta, or analytics, or whatever. I just gut react to everything, I guess?
Same.
Golmore Jungle to regroup
I always had trouble at that place. I remember my first PT I stumbled upon the King Bomb and pretty much got wrecked. I survived after using nearly every item, with practically the entire party dead. Whoops.
Larsa and his Fountain of Hi Potions™
I love this, but they totally got rid of it in the newer versions. Larsa has access to strong healing magic and you can control him directly—which is nice— but I miss the endless stream of Hi Potions. It made him an ideal choice for hitting sidequests with.

Yeah, I think I remember reading somewhere that Larsa had had his potions gambit removed :( I mean, it's nice that guest characters can be controlled now *side eyes Reddas* but that was such a useful thing to have!

This also tends to be how I play games! Which is why I'm so bad at Star Ocean: Anamnesis. You have to dodge in that game, and I am not good at dodging, sigh.
WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THE DUSK SHARD.
Huh. I've only played the game once, and it was over the course of most of a year so I had a long stretch with not playing and forgot some of the story details. I never picked up on the fact that they stopped mentioning the Dusk Shard.
IT'S THE RAINS IN GIZA!!!!!
I love rain, too. My cat was even named Raina because of it.

I've only just noticed that the Dusk Shard does one now, on this playthrough. But I think my brain's picking on stuff it doesn't need to to avoid thinking about other things...
I love rain, too. My cat was even named Raina because of it.
That's awesome!

I'm enjoying Anamnesis, but I struggle with it because there is a lot of farming events, and the currency drop rates aren't as generous as in FFBE. Whereas I can get close to 3000 currency in an FFBE run, in SO:A I'm lucky to get 800 a run. I feel I play a reasonable amount per day but have failed to get everything I wanted from the farming events.
That said, it's pretty fun and I am enjoying all the characters, who are brand new to me (I've never played a Star Ocean game before). It's currently my #2 gacha game after FFBE.

It's been a while since I played XII, but I'm pretty sure Ashe and Rasler loved each other too? She looks so happy during the wedding and it's the only thing that explains how broken she is after he dies.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
